A mace is a weapon which uses it strong metal to incapacitate or wound opponents. The material that was used was a wooden metal reinforced shaft with a head of stone, copper, bronze, iron or steel. The length of the mace was short for the foot soldiers varying from 70cm - 90cm. It was used for close combat fighting and can be used off a horses back. In the middle ages maces were very easy to make and very cheap as well.
It was effective against opponents wearing plate armour and reduces the effectiveness of the enemy's shield.

Morning Star
The morning star is a weapon that relies on its head to kill enemies like the mace, but unlike the mace the morning star has spikes covered over its head. This weapon was could be used as a one handed weapon or as a pole arm. The spikes on the morning stars were excellent at penetrating enemy's armour.

Flail
The flail which can ever be called the simple or the military flail is a mace but the spiked head is connected to a chain that is connected to a circular handle. Foot soldiers and knights used this weapons but the knights preferred to use a light, smaller versatile version of the flail. After the development of the flail, versions that had multiple balls and chains added on the handle were made for more blows to the enemy or used to strike multiple enemies at once. The flail was used as a offense weapon and was very difficult to defend yourself with. There is also a weapon called a chain mace which these 2 weapons are different in someway.

War Hammer
The War Hammer is a long,heavy styled hammer with a long handle and head with a spike on the back of the head which were used in the 14th-15th century. It was used for close combat and had different length handles to suit its situation. Longer war hammers were used as pole arms while short war hammers were used for very close quarter combat or used and a horses back. It delivers a full force on the target if not passing the armour still wounding him or paralyzing him. The spike on the back of the war hammer was used a grappling hook to hook there opponents towards themselves to deliver a nasty blow.
